Why should you stick around?

Why should you stick around?

I won’t make you suffer through another long-winded, introspective article (if you even managed to get through the first couple of sentences of my first post). So here’s the long and short of it:

I’m going to write about the experience and the process I follow to learn and develop new skills and interests. On top of that I’ll also be building out a kind of knowledge base that will sit separate from the articles I post. So if all you want is to get into the nitty gritty and learn about something you’re interested in, then you can do that instead. In that knowledge base I’ll be including stuff like frameworks, templates and anything else I’ve either built myself or shamelessly stolen from somewhere else that helped me along the way.

But why are you doing this Matt? There’s already so many videos and articles on literally everything!

Wow what a great question I’ve asked myself! And surprisingly I have an answer. Throughout my life I’ve had a bit of an obsession with learning new skills. My therapist says that it’s because of my need to be self-reliant due to the circumstances of my upbringing (more on that never). And every time I find a new interest, I’m bogged down with the sheer amount of content. It’s rare that all the knowledge or guides or whatever it is you need are all in one place. And it’s even more rare that the creators remember what they actually went through when they were starting out. There’s always those classic problems that novices encounter that they then need to spend a couple of hours trying to solve, only to find the solution on page 11 of a 7 year old post on a random forum.

And that’s the problem I want to solve - I want to build something where all of the information you need is in one place. Somewhere that the answer to that annoying question isn’t a 3 hour Googling session away, but is right there waiting for you.

But why should I listen to you?

Another great question from me. And honestly, I don’t know the answer to this one. I’ve always been awful at “selling myself” and I already work in marketing so I would prefer to do literally anything other than figuring out what my unique selling points are. Like I’ve said before, I’m just an unremarkable person. But I’m someone who loves learning, and I love putting structure to things. And I think that those two things together are something I’d be great at.

So maybe this is something that you find interesting, or maybe I’ll eventually cover something that you’ve been meaning to learn but never known where to start. Either way, I hope you stick around so that we can learn to do stuff together.
